Web MD went to the experts to get the best breakup advice ever.

Read this before you even think of uttering another clichéd breakup line or texting the bad news to your soon-to-be ex.

"If you have gone on one or two or three dates, not calling is breaking up, but after some kind of romantic and sexual encounters, it is a courtesy to call," Lieberman tells Web MD.

"Sometimes it's easier not to call, and there are people who will just run away," she admits.

This is according to a longitudinal study by Stanford sociologist Michael Rosenfeld who tracked more than 3,000 people, married and unmarried straight and gay couples since 2009 to find out what happens to relationships over time.

The study found that after five years there was only a 20 percent chance that a couple will break up and that figure dwindles by the time they have been together for ten years. Why do so many couples break up within a year or two?
